There is no doubt that the Wellington nightlife has changed in the last few years, but the city is a tenacious and creative creature, full of hidden nooks and curiosities perfect for romance of all kinds.
There is no shortage of restaurants, cafes, venues and cocktail bars that set the perfect scene for an evening in the company of a sex worker.
Because we embrace the cosy, sensuality of Winter, this is a post curated for the darker months. A summer-time guide will be released in due course. This post focuses on social dates involving dinner and/or drinks. A booking with an escort that incorporates time outside of the bedroom can also include arts events, music and theatre, but I talk about that in other posts and no doubt will circle back to it because those things are all excellent with a sex worker at your side.
Before we get into ‘the where’ aspect of a date with an escort in Wellington, let’s talk about the etiquette and approach.
You may think that dates out with an escort are outcall bookings, and yes outcalls often can incorporate heading out somewhere together. But dinner or drink dates can also be part of an in-call. For example, a booking could start at Funhouse with some bedroom fun, before heading out for cocktails, then back to Funhouse for round two. Or you could begin with dinner somewhere, and finish up with dessert in the sheets. The in-call approach just needs to be planned in advance so that rooms can be reserved, and that your escort has what she needs for a date outside of Funhouse – we don’t wear much inside Funhouse’s cosy rooms! You will also have to make sure that if your evening has in-call elements, you take into account our opening hours.
Being out and about with a sex worker is an elevated outing, but like any booking shared understandings are essential.
For example, discretion is a must – public displays of affection are off the table. Furtive flirting on the other hand can more than make up for having to wait to get physical. Follow the lead of your date on this, and if in doubt about what is appropriate, ask.
You also need to let us know in advance where you plan to go on your date. This isn’t just about safety. We like to be able to dress appropriately according to the venue, there may be dietary requirements to consider, and there may be venues with a personal connection that needs to be avoided.
THE WHERE
There is no shortage of bustling craft beer bars in central Wellington so my recommendations are not needed there. And bustling is not the right place where discretion is needed. Luckily there are also plenty of smaller bars with decadence and fireside atmosphere, perfect for drawing the Girlfriend Experience out into the world.
Head to Dee’s Place on Cuba St if you are in the mood for a hidden away candle-lit whiskey bar, or for a chartreuse bar see Elixer on Chews Lane. Both are intimate venues where seduction pairs perfectly with bespoke cocktails. The Library is bigger, but still manages to feel cosy and private. It’s more well known as a cocktail bar, but the desserts are good too. And then there is Crumpet on Manners St, for cocktails and strumpets. I mean crumpets. Gourmet of course. What is not to love?
If you have worked up an appetite and are after a more hearty fare, there are plenty of good restaurant options. For exclusive fine dining set in a historic cottage, Rita is a good choice. It is in Aro Valley so away from the crowds, but reasonably central. You will need to book ahead for this one. Likewise for Logan Brown, which is more grandly historic, also fine dining, and closer to Wellington city hotels.
If you need something more spontaneous, Boulcott Street Bistro is a Wellington institution, and after 6pm it is walk-in only – no reservations. The bar is well stocked, so if you need to wait a little before a table is free you will be well looked after. I’ve never regretted rolling the dice with this one. It is an intimate venue, the food is flawless, and because it is more out of the way (although still central) it is a discreet option.
There are a few restaurants in Wellington connected to hotels that are worthy destinations in their own right. Hippopotamus Restaurant & Cocktail Bar is one of them. Sure, it is all the more convenient if you are staying at Museum Hotel and don’t want to brave any Winter tempests outside, but this venue is overflowing with beautiful artwork, it is colourful and dripping with sensuality. And the food is excellent.
For a more casual option, may I suggest hole-in-the-wall Japanese Kazu Yakitori and Sake Bar upstairs on Courtney Place. It’s just a really good time and the food is delicious and also quick. You know, if you want to get back to undressing the beautiful woman in front of you.
