When I lived in Europe, a friend of mine worked for a Lesbian escort agency in Berlin. Of course, that was Berlin – a city with a population the size of New Zealand, and a well-deserved reputation for sexual decadence and liberation. In contrast, I imagined women looking for women sex workers here in Wellington to be rare and niche. But friends, that is not the case.
When a news article pops up about the rise of female clients, it is almost always in relation to male sex workers. As all of my guy sex worker colleagues are gay, I can’t speak to shifts in women looking for male sex workers, or the accuracy of those reports, especially as they are often focused on international contexts.
But there has undoubtedly been a cultural shift around women paying for sex. Midnight Cowboy, a 1969 film on male sex workers hoping for women clients, was a brutal, but probably fairly accurate, depiction of the struggle to find women who would pay for sex. Fifty years later, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande shows how far the conversation has changed. And even though Good Luck to You is a heterosexual depiction of sex work, the sex-positive exploration of transactional relationships, and sexual self-discovery beyond the traditional coming of age films, points to a new normal of paying for sexual experiences as a woman.
As well as a change in social attitudes towards sex and sex work, helped along by decriminalisation in New Zealand, booking a sex worker as a woman is a lot more accessible than it used to be. Walk-in brothels could be quite intimidating for women clients, if they were even allowed in at all.
In contrast, you can now jump online to find escorts you think you’ll connect with. Making contact is discrete, and you can meet in a private, luxury space i.e. Funhouse. For these reasons, there has been consistent increase in women clients here, across all different kinds of sex work, including sensual massage, bedroom bookings like Girlfriend Experience and Kinky Girlfriend bookings, as well as BDSM.
By women clients – in the context of this blog post – I mean women seeing sex workers without a male partner taking part as well. I love couples bookings with both men and women, and threesome bookings have always been popular, for good reason, but there is a different dynamic at play when a woman books an escort for herself, and the session is one on one.
Like all clients, women seeing women sex workers are diverse in age, life experience, and sexuality, as well as what they want from a booking. Hot sexual encounters with beautiful women don’t need to be justified.
For the uninitiated, curiosity does not need to be justified either. I have had bookings where my clients had never had sex with another woman before, and just wanted to dip their toes in before hooking up with someone in their personal life.
Equally, I have had bookings where the desire was for some casual sex without strings, or to be able to get exactly what they wanted. Some clients are young professional women, but many are older too. Some identify as lesbian, or bisexual, but you don’t need a queer identity to have sex with another woman.
Whether you want new forms of intimacy, the heightened authenticity that comes with following one’s desires, or just to surrender to the touch of a beautiful woman, we’ve got you.
There are a lot of different things which make a great session, but intention, being fully alive to the moment, and erotic curiosity (even for the experienced) are great foundations. Our strap-on and other toy collection is extensive, it is not all about toys. Our enjoyment of what fingers, hands, mouths, words and energy can do is likewise extensive.
And if you are not sure where to start, I recommend taking a look through the Funhouse website, including the Woman for Woman services page and ladies profiles, and giving Mary a call.
