Picture yourself amongst blossoming flowers, stunning views, breathless and delightfully weak at the knees – heavenly. Yes, this could be a description of Funhouse Wellington, but I write of Te Araroa trail, which runs (almost) to our door.

While not an official rest stop for weary trampers to hang their boots, we have nonetheless found ourselves meeting more and more people fresh off the trail and in the mood for a massage or celebration between fresh crisp sheets. All that fresh air is notorious for enhancing the libido, and we heartily approve.

For hikers who have completed all or part of the Te Ika-a Maui / North Island, Wellington is the perfect place to pause before catching a ferry south. Some call visiting us ‘Active Relaxation’, and they are not wrong. We call it naked Sensual Massage or the Girlfriend Experience, just to be specific. Take advantage of our massage tables and skilled hands, and relax awhile.

The nearby bars and eateries can take care of any other hunger. Te Wai Pounamu / the South Island section of Te Araroa is a whole new adventure, especially if you are taking on the Te Tai o Aorere/ Tasman, and we recommend a recharge before embarking.

If you are bucking the trend and venturing from the South to Northern tip instead, allow us to ease your return to civilisation. And don’t worry, if Wellington is a mid-way point and not your destination, it won’t be long before you are back in rugged terrain. Either way, it’s a happy ending.
